There are three paper altogether.
The first two papers out of 75 marks each.
The first examination is non-calculator.
The second examination permits the use of a calculator although it would not be expected that you would need it for every question.
The third paper will test what are known as Functional Skills. You will be permitted to use a calculator for this exam also.
On the calendar it says that examination week for Year 7 starts on Tuesday 3rd May. You will take the three exams during your first three lessons from this date onwards.
Below you will find the topics that will be included in the examination. Note that Cumulative Frequency and polygons will not be included in the test and neither will anything researched in the Triangles unit except triangle numbers.
Topics:
TRIANGLES
· Angle sum in a triangle is 180°
· Area of a triangle using A = ½bh
· Pythagoras’ theorem for right-angled triangles (a2 + b2 = c2)
STATISTICS and HEALTH
· Pie Charts
· Mean, median, mode and range of a list of numbers
· Lower and upper quartiles; Interquartile range
· Box Plots
· Estimating the mean from a grouped frequency table
ECONOMICS
· Finding simple percentages of quantities (e.g. 40%, 5%)
· There will be a question on compound interest but it will be structured.
· Ratio
EQUATIONS
· Equations with x on both sides, plus one question on each of: equations with brackets, inequalities, simultaneous equations and trial and improvement (to 1 decimal place)
FACTORS, MULTIPLES AND PRIMES
· Factors, multiples, primes and square numbers
· Highest Common Factor and Lowest Common Multiple
· Product of prime factors
GENERAL
· Substituting into expressions or formulae
· Metric and imperial conversions (where the conversion is given)
· Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of negative numbers.
